The Times, They Are A Changin’

Local time in Malaysia has been adjusted numerous times over the years. In 1932, clocks were advanced by 20 minutes in an attempt to “increase” daylight hours. In 1941, time leapt forward another 10 minutes to realign to neighbouring nations; in 1942 the region was forced to observe Tokyo time by advancing yet another two hours; in 1945, following the defeat of the Japanese, clocks reverted to the 1941 standard; and in 1982, time was pushed forward another 30 minutes so that Malaysian Standard Time was 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
